Welcome to the South Carolina Cancer Registrars Association (SCCRA) web site!

The South Carolina Cancer Registrars Association (SCCRA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 to promote service, education, and research in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our membership is composed of registrars -- both hospital-based and central cancer registry-based -- and other allied healthcare professionals with involvement or interest in various aspects of registry operations.

Through our educational and service efforts, SCCRA envisions being able to promote the Cancer Registry as an integral part of the oncology healthcare team and to be of greater service to the cancer patient, healthcare administrators, and physicians.

In support of our efforts, we:

* Encourage activities which promote cancer research and public education about cancer and cancer prevention

* Initiate and/or participate in programs to approve and standardize methods of compiling and distributing cancer data

* Disseminate information to members of the Association regarding current activities, research, and trends in the cancer field

* Seek active collaboration with professional and governmental organizations, which utilize data, derived from Cancer Registrars

As part of our educational efforts, SCCRA offers a 1 and 1/2-day educational conference each year. The conference includes lectures and rountable discussions on cancer registry data collectin and standards, cancer treatment, cancer program management, and often features a national guest speaker. National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) continuing education hours are available to conference attendees.

We also offer a Certified Tumor Registry (CTR) Review Examination Workshop every other year for those registrars studying to take the CTR examination. The workshop is open to both in-state and out-of-state registrars. Please watch this website for information on the next workshop.

The learning doesn't stop there. As President of SCCRA, I have made it my goal to assist with providing additional educational outlets for our members by "thinking outside the box" and taking advantage of the technology that exists in our everyday lives. We will do that by providing regional roundtables and developing our own webinars.

On behalf of SCCRA, thank you for visiting our website. We welcome you to learn more about our orgainzation and ways you can participate in the vision of SCCRA. Without our volunteers, SCCRA would cease to exsist. So, I encourage every menber to get involved in your orgainzation. Speaking from experience, the rewards are great!

Lastly, it is my hope that this website serve as a communications tool and resource for the members of our association and other visitors, so please check back often, as we will continue to update our web site and post the activities of our association. Also, before you go, please sign our guestbook and let us know how we can improve this site to better serve you.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments about SCCRA.

Sincerely,

Natalie J. Copeland, RHIA, CTR
President, South Carolina Cancer Registrars Association
