| Welcome to the South Carolina Cancer Registrars Association (SCCRA) web site!
The South Carolina Cancer Registrar’s Association (SCCRA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 to promote service, education, and research in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our membership is composed of registrars—both hospital-based and central cancer registry-based—and other allied healthcare administrators, and physicians.
As part of our educational efforts, SCCRA offers annually a 2 and ˝ day educational conference each year. The conference includes lectures and roundtable discussions on cancer registry data collection and standards, cancer treatment, cancer program management, and often features a national guest speaker. National Cancer Registrar’s Association (NCRA) continuing education hours are available to conference attendees.
We also offer a Certified Tumor Registry (CTR) Review Examination Workshop every other year for those registrars studying to take the CTR examination. The workshop is open to both in-state and out-of-state registrars.
The year of 2010 and 2011 anticipates major changes in every aspect of the registry nationwide. Induction of the Seventh Edition AJCC Staging Manual and the Hematopoietic Multiple Primaries and Histology will begin. The training classes will disseminate from the Central Cancer Registry located in Columbia, SC. Then in 2011, the Cancer Program Standards will be revised. A different avenue of education will be offered by webinars continuing throughout the year. The learning experience never ceases to stop and continuing education is a key factor for the cancer registrar.
The SCCRA promotes ideals as a cancer registrar by: • Promoting professional development of individuals in the cancer registry profession. • Provides education for the cancer registrar. • Channel of communication for all working in the registry field. • Publish education aids such as the SCCRAmble, Blast and Blackboard.
