Welcome to the South Carolina Cancer Registrars Association (SCCRA) Web site!
The South Carolina Cancer Registrars Association (SCCRA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 to promote service, education, and research using cancer data. The SCCRA is dedicated to the timely, complete, and accurate collection of cancer patient data in hospitals and at the population level. Our membership is composed of registrars—both hospital- and central registry-based—and other allied healthcare professionals including physicians.
Highlights of the SCCRA’s efforts include: 1. Annual Educational Conference - a 2½ day conference with lectures by physicians and healthcare professionals, both local and national, that enhance and address hospital cancer data collection, ACoS cancer program standards, cancer treatment, cancer program management, and data utilization on the hospital, state, and national level. National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) continuing education hours are available to conference attendees.
2. CTR Exam Prep - in the form of the NAACCR Webinar Series. Registrars can attend these 8 weekly webinar sessions for a minimal cost, glean the materials, obtain instruction, take a practice exam on information pertinent to the exam for that year.
3. The SCCRAmble – the newsletter of the SCCRA that provides members with news from around the state and announcements of interests. A Member Spotlight is included in each issue members become more familiar with each other.
4. The Frances W. Wheeler Award – the award established in honor of Frances W. Wheeler, a renowned South Carolina public health professional, who mentored countless cancer registrars in this state, promoted registries in hospitals in the early days, and who was a charter member of this association. The award recognizes outstanding individuals who support the mission, values, and principles of the SCCRA in service, education and/or research. The award is presented at the Annual Educational Conference.
South Carolina has many unique characteristics regarding the occurrence of cancer. The data that are collected by cancer registrars can tell that story best. Cancer registrars are highly skilled individuals, armed with the knowledge and abilities to provide timely, complete and accurate cancer data to be used to address cancer control in this state.
